Relationship Distress

β€œFor small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love.” Carl Segan

Many long for meaningful genuine relationships and yet struggle to get them. Instead of feeling joy, many are left feeling hurt and alone, even in the company of others. While we learn about relationships from infancy, much of what we observed, we cannot articulate. Our unique genetic sensitivities combined with our experience of how we have been handled throughout our development by our parents, peers and partners, inform what we expect from relationships and how we should conduct ourselves in them.

If you often find yourself alone or dissatisfied with the relationships you have, coming to therapy can be helpful.  Through the process of therapy, you can:

  • Acquire insight into your unconscious expectations upon entering relationships
  • Understand yourself and others better
  • Gain your voice in relationships and improve your communication with others
  • Become more assertive and learn how handle conflict more effectively
  • Learn to express your needs in a way that draw others closer to you
  • Grow in your experience of safety and trust in relationships
  • Be o.k. with being who you truly are
  • Recognize the level of healthy connection you want to have with particular people in your life
  • Create healthy boundaries and invest in your self-development
  • Become more comfortable with intimacy
